I
lived in the
Panama Canal Zone
from 1975 to 1985. It
was like owning a piece of heaven. During that time I neither missed nor
returned to the states. While living there I tried SCUBA, sailed, owned a
horse, trekked in the jungle, danced and partied and, of course, transited
the
Panama Canal
a few times.
Since I worked for Department of Defense, I was exposed to lots of
attractive men, so that was an extra bonus. Now it is not the place I knew
and loved, so I will never go back. I do have my memories, and 500+
slides and photos.
People
ask me why I left it if I loved it so much, but I knew when it was time
for me to move on, and sadly in life you can never go back to "what
was", so I will never return. Those of us who lived in the Canal Zone
were blessed.
Unless you experienced it, you can not understand it. Occasionally,
I still dream of Panama
even after 20
years. It’s in my soul.
I still have over
400 slides that I need sort and post. - in time, all in good
time. Below are link to my Life in the Canal Zone from 1975
-1985. Check out a the Panama
Canal's Web Cams .
